“Illegal”. Consistent with immigrant rights advocates everywhere, and increasingly, journalistic style of many organizations (like Associated Press), P-P-T considers it ungrammatical and insulting to use “illegal” to refer to a person. For more information about our policy regarding working with folks without documentation, click here. A person is not an illegal person if they are in the country without a valid visa. As a policy, we use the word “undocumented” or people without valid/legal status to work in the U.S. – or other accurate, descriptive phrasing.
