USA 2010: About 9% of US Residents describe themselves as “Limited English Proficient, according to US Census data, and many of these would like to improve their skills. Secondary Education, Private Schools, and Community Sites don’t effectively meet the existing demand for flexible, culturally responsive, reality-based, family-friendly, multilevel English programs.

There are three things we know about ethnic diversity in the US:

  1. There’s a lot of it.
  2. Every culture has a different expectations about learning.
  3. All of those differences are not always going to fit together.

This means that language & cultural practice for immigrants and refugees will always require flexibility and keen observation.
